YOF Report

At the beginning of November a group from the club including myself and Frances Bridge, Sian Griffiths, Harriet Mulcahy, Shannon Betts, Christy and Ashleigh Stevens, Lakeisha Sawyer and Ellie Kaye, filled out an application in the hope of receiving funding for the club from the Youth Opportunities Fund, with the help of our coach, Aarron. After many hours of work on filling out the 20-odd page application, with everyone contributing to it, we did a check through of it and then sent it off. We then had to plan a presentation to give to a panel of 14-19 year old judges to talk about our initiative, what we were planning on doing, how we were going to do, why, etc. Then we would be asked questions by the panel so they could find out anything else they wanted to know. However when the time came to give the presentation we were told that not enough applications had been given in so we had to wait till the next time to be able to do our presentation, which after all of our rushing around and trying to get it all sorted was a bit frustrating. We were then told we could give the presentation in January and after us thinking we had it all sorted we were told that only a maximum of three people could go in. This means that we had to change our presentation completely so that it could given by three people. The three people that were selected to do it were myself, Lakeisha and Christy.

We finally gave the presentation on the 14th of January, most of the team came along to support even though they couldn’t go in. The presentation was very successful, although it didn’t take very long. This was mainly down to the fact that our application had been so detailed and clear and the presentation had pretty much covered everything else! After being asked a few questions it was clear that the panel was interested and on board with what we wanted to do and all questions they asked were easily and well answered by the group.

A week later we got the result from our presentation. The group had got the club £7960, which was a great success and is enabling us to buy a new DMT, landing area, run up and safety mats, however these are not only for the use of the club but also 14-19year olds in the area who it is our aim buy getting more equipment to provide them with a chance to get them involved in the sport and do something constructive. All in all, it was very successful and we are planning on putting in another application in the new financial year so that we can get two new trampolines also! A big thank you to everyone on the team and everyone who helped, especially Rob, Aarron and Ali Woods who helped kick start it and greatly helped us out before the emigrated to Virginia.
