THE WORLD AGE GROUP CHAMPIONSHIPS BY SAPPHIRE DALLARD

When I first found out I had been selected for the World Age Championships, I was amazed, it was like a dream come true. When I then found out that I had been selected for all three pieces, synchro, DMT and individual I was so happy I couldn't wait until the day we had to fly to Russia.

Finally after what felt like a year waiting because I was so excited the day finally came - Friday 13th November. I had to get up really early. The minibus left at 5.00 in the morning with the GB team. After 1h 30mins we got to Heathrow airport. We got on the plane at about 8.00am. I was so excited because it was my first ever flight. On the plane we got given a big cooked breakfast and whatever we wanted to eat or drink. I had loads of fun on the plane with the GB team. The flight took 3h 30mins, but it didn't feel that long, it went really quick.

Before I knew it we were there, we were in Russia. When we landed we got off the plane and it was snowing. Everything was white and the snow was really thick and it was cold. We were picked up from the airport in a coach and taken to the most amazing 5 star hotel.

On the first day we had to go out and buy lots of bottles of water because there were was no tap water to drink. After that we went out shopping. The shops were amazing and I bought lots of lovely things for my family and friends. After shopping, we went to the Sports arena. It was so big. We went to watch the World Tumbling to see what it was all about and how the competition works. Everyone was so good, it was amazing.

We went back to the hotel and had tea. The food was different to ours, but it wasn't bad; something's were actually really nice. After we had tea, we went to bed. I was sharing a room with Georgia Downing who is one of my friends from the GB team. The next day we went sightseeing . We went to the Winter Palace and lots of other beautiful buildings. When we were walking around to the different places we met a funny man called George. He lived in Russia and everyday he would get changed into his swimming stuff and go for a swim in the freezing water and snow. We all thought he was crazy but he said it was normal. It was so funny.

There was lots of training. I had to train more than everyone else because I was doing all three pieces. It was very tiring. After all the training and sightseeing it time to compete. My first competition was individual trampoline. I competed my routine and it went really well. I finished in 27th place and I was happy with that. My second competition was in synchro. Myself and Jordan Arnold who is my syncho partner did a great routine and we were 4th going into the final. Then we did another really great routine and went up to 3rd. We were so happy. It was amazing to be on the podium at my first World Age Championships. When I got off the podium, I had to train my DMT. Early next morning I competed in DMT. It was amazing. I landed both my passes in the box and came 11th; just missing the final, but I didn't mind too much because I was so happy that I got to compete in the World Age Championships in all three pieces and to come home with a medal was a dream come true.

On the last day we had a big party and we all played in a big arcade. I had such a great time, I so want to do it again this year and maybe come home with a gold medal. X
