On Friday 4th July 2008, Renascence Trampolining set of for the above event with 9 performers and an army of supporters. Upon arrival at the Regency Hyatt hotel in Birmingham, there was little time to get ourselves organised and over to the NIA for Friday nights training. Training started almost 30 minutes late due to technical issues at the NIA. With just an half hour training slot available, there was no time to waste, and our coaches and performers alike got straight on with the job in hand. With training having gone well it was time to relax, and so Renascence descended upon Pizza Express. Haven eaten and refuelled it was time for the performers to get back for a good nights sleep and for the adults to socialise. It was Saturday 5th July 2008 and the first day of this years National Finals. I think its fair to say, the first thing that anybody in the arena saw was Aarron's "unusual" choice of clothing, which I believe we have to "thank" Louise Mulcahy for!!!!! First up for Renascence were our Grade 2 performers - Harriet, Celine and Rebecca. At this level of competition every routine counts and with a quite remarkable climb of 20 or so places with her first voluntary Harriet finished in 10th place, her highest ever Nationals result. Celine and Rebecca both put in solid performances with Celine finishing in 16th place whilst Rebecca finished the day in 8th place earning her a place in Sunday's finals. It was onto the Grade 1's, - Harvey, Emily, Sapphire, Jasper, Ella Mae and Rebecca Sandt. Unfortunately Ella Mae had to withdraw from the competition at the last minute, a very tough decision to make, but hopefully she will have many more National Finals to make her mark. Harvey, Emily and Sapphire we all competing in the first flight together, and after a disappointing set scores, it was time to pull out all the stops for the voluntary routines. With both Emily and Sapphire increasing the difficulty of their voluntary for the National Finals it was all to play for. Unfortunately for Emily with a superb voluntary routine is was still not quite enough to make Sunday's finals and finished in 14th place. Sapphire completed a fantastic voluntary routine only to brush the mat at the end losing her valuable marks and ending her 2008 season with a 17th place. Harvey pulled out an excellent voluntary routine moving him up from 9th after the set routine to 5th earning him a place in Sunday's finals. In the next flight is was the turn of Jasper and Rebecca. With just 1 other boy in Jaspers event it was over quickly, but still not without is drama. With both boys, according to the judges, appearing to be equal, Jasper was 0.1 behind after the set routine. It was Game On. with both boys guaranteed to go through to finals on Sunday, neither could make a mistake. The voluntary round was almost as close as the first, however Jaspers was better and finished his days work, just 0.2 ahead of his rival. It was still all to play for. Rebecca continued with her solid performances and finished the first day of trampolining for Renascence in 7th place earning her a place in Sunday's finals. After presentations to all competitors and the team march-on it was late and everyone was hungry. It was back to hotel, quick change and we all descended upon a Chinese restaurant in China Town. In total 45 Renascence performers, coaches, parents and supporters arrived at the Restaurant. Some had got there taxi, whilst others braved the rain and arrived looking like drowned rats!!!!!!!! This did not however ruin the evenings fun and an excellent time was had by all. It was back to the hotel for basically a repeat of the Friday nights events!!!!! Sunday 6th July was finals day. With 50% of our original jumpers making their respective finals is was destined to be another roller coaster of emotions for everybody. As with the Saturday, the Grade 2's went first, and Aarron was wearing something similar, however, this time he had bright pink leg warmers to go with it!!! - Worrying. It was Rebecca Cresswells first ever National Finals Final. In the final round only 1 competitor (in the whole arena) competes at anyone time. The pressure is immense. Rebecca was going into the final in an ideal position, 8th. She could only stay in 8th or move up. Rebecca put in a very solid routine. It was job done and fingers cross. All other 7 performers put in good routines and Rebecca finished her first ever Grade 2 season with an 8th at the National finals - a fantastic result. It was time for the Grade 1's. Rebecca and Jasper were first to go. Rebecca increased the difficulty of her routine. Rebecca stayed in 7th place which was still a one place improvement on last years result. It was over to Jasper. As time was getting on his nerves we getting harder and harder to cope with. After what probably seemed like forever, his event was underway. His rival went first, putting a fairly good routine. With a slightly higher difficulty than Jaspers routine, it meant Jasper had to cream it to win. He did just that. The routine was one of his best. Finally over, for just a few moments the emotion of the whole event was too much. The result was fantastic earning him and Renascence their first Grade 1 National Champion. The last competitor for Renascence was Harvey Donnelly. Knowing that an excellent routine could probably lift him up from 5th to the podium, the pressure was on. After a lot of waiting of round it was time. It was such a tense moment even Erika could not watch. Harvey did what he had to do. With a voluntary routine scoring more that his set, all he could do was sit an wait. With just one the 4 boys ahead of him failing to keep their nerve, Harvey moved up 1 place narrowly missing a podium spot. Well done to all performers and parents for this weekend. I am sure it was an adventure for you all. Renascence would like to thank everyone who gave up their weekend and spent the money to support the club. **** PHOTOS AND VIDEO OF THE WEEKEND WILL BE ON THE WEBSITE OVER THE NEXT COUPLE OF WEEKS ****
